Weekly Update

Hello! What a week we had here! Snow and ice Sunday, Monday saw temps less than 10 degrees all day, yesterday we had 60 degree temps with monsoon wind and rains, and today is clear and sunny but back to freezing! New England really does give us such a variety of weather. Just this Monday past there was an ice fisherman on Shovel Shop Pond, shelter and all, tending about a dozen holes. Yesterday the ice was gone! Winter does come each year of course, and once in a while we come across an old photo to remind us just that. Winter photos from the old days are rare. One reason for that is the sensitivity to early photographic plates to the bright winter sun reflecting off of the snow. All

Greetings from historic Easton! We are getting ready to settle in for our first real winter storm Saturday night and Sunday. Well, it had to come sometime! A few thoughts on how to spend a wintry day: Take a look at our programs on Ecat, Easton's cable channel. They taped a great talk on art given at last week's open house by Eveline Johnson. Check out her talk, and take a look at other Society programs and tours. Find a good book and a cozy spot, a cup of something warm (or something to warm you up!) and read! Eveline is the artist responsible for the paintings on our popular Easton puzzle! Below is a bio provided by her that better explains her background, training, and accomplishments. If you are looking for something special, come by and talk with Eveline. Her paintings and prints make excellent gifts for someone special, someone new, or a soon-to-be graduate! As al

Greetings from a wet and stormy Easton! Although it is warm and rainy today, we expect a seasonable snowfall and cold weather Monday night and Tuesday. Hopefully this winter will be milder, and tamer, that last year's record cold and major snowstorms (one such storm left more than 90% of Easton without power, some for many days). If you need some encouragement to get through the wintry weather, why not tune in to watch Chronicle this week? The show will feature places of "hygge"! What is that? It is described as a place of comfort, a place to snuggle. The Ames Free Library is featured in this program. The atmosphere there is conducive to hygge (picture curling up with a good book on a cold
