Volume 4 includes a fascinating article by Edmund Hands on The Yankees and the Irish: Early Shovelmakers to 1860 and an article by Professor James J. Kenneally on the 1889 Strike at the Ames Shovel Company. Signe Johnson DiPasqua wrote an article on the Recollections of a Southender and Judith D. King writes of Polio striking a number of children on Canton Street  in 1955. Other interesting articles by Sara L. Lupica, Judge Leon J. Lombardi, Norma Jean Hanscom, Daniel P.
