Tuesday Tours at Ten

Greetings! Join us as we continue with our summer Tuesday Tours at Ten! Tomorrow, July 31, meet at the Museum at 10 a.m. sharp and take a tree tour of the Governor Ames Estate! Located diagonally across Oliver Street from the Museum, the estate contains a number of specimen trees planted during the ownership of Governor Oliver Ames, and later his son Oakes Ames. The Governor was instrumental in shaping the landscapes, and his love of trees is evident as you look around the property. His son Oakes, chair of the Botany Department at Harvard University, expanded the plantings in later years. Oakes also was very involved with the Arnold Arboretum, and may have used some of the property on his father's estate to experiment with rare and unusual trees. The Governor Ames Estate, a property of The Trustees, is open to the public daily. This tour will introduce you to what makes this a special place! Plenty of shade is promised.
