Weekly Update

Happy fall! Lots of cool air, colorful leaves, and the season's first frost remind us that fall is finally here to stay. Another sign of fall? The Red Sox playing in another World Series! Good luck to the home team!

I recently took a look at some of the things Eastoners might do for entertainment, and I came upon this interesting item. It is an admission ticket for a play held at Oakes Ames Memorial Hall, September 27 and 28, 1934. Sponsored by the Easton Grange, the affordable admission prices provided a good night out for people during the Depression. The title is a poem by Robert William Service, sometimes called "The Canadian Bard" who died in 1958. I am not sure if this night was a reading of his poem, perhaps by the poet himself, or if it might be a play or some other thing using a similar title. Perhaps one day we might find out! Here is the ticket for your perusal.

And don't forget the talk on Sunday afternoon by Maureen Meister, author, who will present Arts and Crafts Architecture: History and Heritage in New England at 3 p.m. at Queset. This is a free event, an even better deal than the ticket above!

Have a good week! Frank
