Weekly Update

May 3, 2019

Hello my fellow historians!  A rare sight in Easton today - sun! I hope spring will finally turn a corner and appear in its full glory!

We had a great evening last night at the 20th annual "Chowder and Chatter" event.  Lee and Kevin Williams were honored for their continued generosity in sponsoring the event, and Carol Misiewicz was honored along with her late husband Dr. Robert F. Misiewicz who originated the idea of an evening such as this.  After a delicious meal of clam fritters and selected varieties of chowder, followed by coffee and goodies, we heard from members of the Ames family who shared their remembrances of their fathers, the late John S. Ames, 2nd, David Ames, Sr., and Senator Oliver F. Ames, who along with William A. Parker presented the Society with our museum building 50 years ago.  I did not have the honor of knowing these men, and I am grateful for David Ames, Jr., Heidi Ames, and Minnie Ames sharing stories of their fathers.  Hazel Varella told the story of receiving the building, and the following investigation by seven board members, three flashlights, and a key that still worked!  Many thanks to all who participated, and to the members of the Ames family who were well represented.

Saturday is our spring bottle and can drive held in memory of Ken Martin.  The drive will be held rain or shine at the Museum between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.  All Massachusetts returnable items are appreciated!

Sunday we will hold our Annual Meeting at "Queset" which is located behind the Ames Free Library at 51 Main Street.  The meeting will begin at 2 p.m.  Dr. Uma Hiremath, Executive Director of the Library, will share about her experiences with "Queset" and its many uses.  Light refreshments will be served.

Stay tuned for a very special announcement on Monday!  You won't want to miss this!

Have a great weekend,

Frank
